Methodology and Biostatistics Unit
Mission
Help researchers give operational form to their hypotheses and research proposals, as well as provide advice on methodology, study design and the most appropriate statistical techniques to use at each stage.
Description
It is a Research Support Service (SAI) that provides methodological and statistical advice to all researchers who require assistance with any aspect of a research project: type and study design, data collection, sample size, database design, statistical techniques to be used, etc. Its purpose is to provide the necessary assistance so that researchers can achieve the objectives proposed for their research.
The Unit also performs statistical analyses and processes databases for all projects in which researchers encounter difficulties with their analysis.

Support and monitoring of ongoing research projects:

- Conference communications, presentations, etc.
- Doctoral theses and research proficiency projects
Statistical processing and analysis of databases:
- Database design and creation: Excel, Access, SPSS, etc.
- Statistical analysis and processing of databases
In person, by telephone or by email, an appointment is arranged with the researcher, during which a day and time are assigned according to the Unit's availability.
The delivery time for work involving databases that requires statistical processing of the data ranges from 1 to 10 days. The variability in delivery time depends on the complexity of the study, the availability of the Unit's staff and the workload.
Technology
Three networked computers with Internet access and a shared printer. The computers have the SPSS statistical package as well as freely available statistical software: EPIDAT 3.1, Granmo 7.1, R, etc.
Installation
The SAI Methodology and Biostatistics Unit is located in the prefabricated building annexed to the Medicina y Cirugía Experimental building of Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón (HGUGM). It consists of an office and an external workstation for the resident on rotation.
