The governing body (Board of Trustees) of FIBHGM approves and oversees FIBHGM’s lines of action and is made up of Hospital executives, a representative appointed by the competent body responsible for health research in the Community of Madrid, as well as representatives of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
The FOUNDATION, in accordance with the provisions of the General Collaboration Agreement currently in force, dated 19 April 2020, signed between the COMMUNITY OF MADRID, through the REGIONAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH and the MADRID HEALTH SERVICE, and the FUNDACIÓN PARA LA INVESTIGACIÓN BIOMÉDICA DEL HOSPITAL GREGORIO MARAÑON, has among its functions the coordination, promotion and management of biomedical research and innovation activities carried out within the Hospital, understood in the broadest sense of the term, encompassing basic and applied research and innovation, clinical and epidemiological research, and health services research, in accordance with the provisions of scientific and technical policy.
FIBHGM does not have a Hospital budget. Its funds come from research grants, agreements, donations, clinical trials and royalties from its patents and registrations. As a non-profit organisation, it devotes all its income—including that from indirect costs (overheads)—to funding activities that support research, expanding its research infrastructure and the operation of FIBHGM itself.
It has its own legal personality, making it a highly agile management tool. It is audited and files its accounts with the Protectorate and the Registry of Foundations. Its structure is based on the pillars supporting the management of Biomedical Research, with THE RESEARCHER as its common focus.
