21/08 I MEDICAL 3D PRINTING UPDATE CONFERENCE IiSGM

Medical 3D printing represents a complete paradigm shift in the area of healthcare, being recognised as a valuable tool in personalised and precision medicine. At Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, there is extensive experience in the medical application of desktop 3D printing technology, having succeeded in transferring the manufacture of biomodels into real clinical practice.

Giving prominence to the philosophy of in-house printing, or printing integrated within the Centre itself, an update session is being presented in which the workflow will be reviewed, from the acquisition of medical images or 3D design through to the manufacture of the final product, while also presenting successful cases in which 3D printing has enabled clinical solutions to be obtained in different medical and surgical areas.

Supported by an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the Gregorio Marañón Health Research Institute (IiSGM), as well as clinicians from different specialities, we will focus on medical communication, therapeutic planning and the manufacture of patient-specific products.

The session will also provide details of the operation of the Medical 3D Printing Unit, which has been operating at our hospital since 2014, promoted by the Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Department and included as a hospital project to improve the quality of care. Aspects of its regulatory framework will also be addressed, which will undoubtedly give rise to debate.

The session is aimed at any healthcare professional, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students of biomedical sciences, and registration is free until capacity is reached.
