The IiSGM, a pioneer in creating a Research and Innovation Group in Healthcare Management
The Gregorio Marañón Hospital Health Research Institute (IiSGM) has become the first in Spain to establish a Research and Innovation Group in Healthcare Management. Through this milestone, the aim is to work jointly, cooperatively and in a coordinated manner in this field to optimise management work through the use of research methodology and thus offer innovative solutions in the future based on scientific evidence.
This group is co-led by Sonia García de San José, Managing Director of Gregorio Marañón Hospital, and Rodolfo Romero, Deputy Director of Care Continuity at the hospital. Its team includes up to 11 researchers belonging to the management team, who will be joined by members of other hospital departments.
This is a pioneering initiative at national level, as it includes healthcare professionals to evaluate the aspects of healthcare management from within. To date, external agents, academics and, primarily, those working from a health economics perspective have been analysing this type of management.
Research areas
The new Marañón Research and Innovation Group in Healthcare Management has also defined its various research areas, structured around four strategic pillars: Process Management and Engineering, People Management, Information and Data Management, and Resource Management.
In addition, the first two projects, already under development at the hospital, have been selected as models to drive its activity forward on a solid footing. The aim is to develop two success stories from start to finish that can serve as models for research into healthcare management.
As happened with the creation of the Research Group in Nursing Care, it was decided to give this group an independent status from the Institute's seven thematic areas, giving it its own visibility, which reinforces the hospital's strategic commitment to innovation in this field.
