The Gregorio Marañón Health Research Institute and the Biomedical Research Foundation of Gregorio Marañón Hospital have brought the work of their researchers closer to society through interactive activities, educational talks and visits to their laboratories, promoting scientific culture in an accessible way, as well as showing how this knowledge contributes to improving people's health.
More than 80 students of different ages and educational levels, adults and researchers have shown an interest in these placements, which have been rated outstanding in the satisfaction surveys completed by attendees.
This series took place at the hospital as part of Science and Innovation Week, which aims to raise awareness among all audiences of the impact of biomedical research, especially among children and young people, as well as to encourage careers in this field. You can watch a summary in this video.
The activities held included an interactive workshop on microorganisms, guided visits to the laboratories of Haematological Genetics and Biology and Bio-Optics, as well as a course to advise families with children suffering from neurological conditions on the latest advances in nutrition.
In addition, educational talks were given on which brain regions support cognitive functions such as memory, attention and language, and their impact on mental health, as well as on how diseases such as tuberculosis continue to affect vulnerable populations in different parts of the world.
