28/01. CALL FOR INTRAMURAL RESEARCH GRANTS

2015 Intramural Call for Research Grants

The IISGM is conceived as a multidisciplinary and translational biomedical research centre integrating basic, clinical, epidemiological and health services research, with the promotion and advancement of biomedical research as its primary objective.

In line with this objective, the strategic need has been identified to create initiatives and programmes that facilitate the recruitment of human resources dedicated to research, as well as support for the development of research projects, which in turn are complementary to and synergistic with the grants announced under the State Plan for R&D&I.

Accordingly, the following initiatives have been established within the IISGM's scientific policy for 2015. These may be developed to varying degrees in subsequent years depending on budgetary availability and the strategic need to prioritise some activities over others:

-Grants for predoctoral researchers in training The purpose of this type of research grant is to provide one-year grants for the recruitment of predoctoral students to join research groups. Preference will be given to applications submitted by Emerging Groups or by Sara Borrell, Juan de la Cierva, Miguel Servet, Ramón y Cajal, etc. researchers. The justification for this grant lies in the fact that many of the researchers, mainly postdoctoral researchers, who are currently carrying out their work at the IISGM face significant difficulties (associated with the current economic situation) in developing their projects due to a lack of predoctoral or technical staff. The fundamental academic objective is the development and defence of high-quality doctoral theses. -Post-Specialised Health Training Grants for the Promotion of Research. The objective of this type of research grant is to provide one-year contracts to residents who have completed their Specialised Health Training programme (MIR, FIR, QIR, BIR, PIR, EIR) in order to promote the candidates' training development in the field of clinical and translational research and enhance the research activity and performance of the host groups. -Grants for the Intensification of research activity

This initiative aims to support the recruitment of specialist physicians to carry out part of the clinical and healthcare activities of professionals who also conduct research activities. The objective is to strengthen the critical mass of professionals who combine both activities in order to transfer knowledge more rapidly to patients and healthcare practice, as well as to encourage the participation of healthcare staff in research activities and promote patient- and population-oriented research.

- Grants for the Intensification of nursing staff to support clinical trials

This call aims to promote the participation of nursing staff in the recruitment, coordination and management of clinical trials.

-Grants for the development of biomedical research projects

The objective is to strengthen support for research projects, preferably those of Emerging Groups or submitted by Sara Borrell, Juan de la Cierva, Miguel Servet, Ramón y Cajal, etc. researchers, which have not received funding, or have received insufficient funding, under the AES call. -Grants for the development of nursing research projects This grant aims to promote the development of research projects whose principal investigators are nursing staff in years when they have been unable to obtain competitive funding through the AES call. -Grants for placements in foreign centres These grants aim to complement researchers' training at foreign centres and ensure that their experience results in international collaborations in the form of stable partnerships and publications. -Grants for the development of development cooperation projects These are complementary grants for the development of research and/or international cooperation projects with developing countries for professionals at the Institute. In addition to contributing to the development of cooperation projects, the aim is for their experience to result in international collaborations in the form of stable partnerships and publications. -Grants for English language editing

With the aim of promoting international publications and therefore a presence in journals with a higher impact factor, the IISGM offers IISGM researchers a grant for the language editing of scientific articles, posters and conference presentations.

The general assessment criteria for each of these calls will be aligned with those governing the Strategic Action in Health of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, and may be consulted individually in the attached regulatory provisions. The IISGM may commission an External Technical Committee to carry out the assessment whenever it considers this appropriate. The award will be made by a Selection Committee whose decision shall be final. The implementation of the grants will be rigorously assessed in person. Failure to carry out a substantial part of the activities during their implementation will result in the interruption of the project. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The APPLICATION SUBMISSION PERIOD is now open until 19 FEBRUARY.
