Neuroscience and Mental Health

Coordinador:

Dr. María José Parellada Redondo

One of the main lines of research in the field of neuroscience is the study of the aetiopathogenic bases of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. The hospital’s psychiatry group participates in and collaborates on national and international multicentre projects related to genetic and environmental risk factors, structural and functional imaging studies, and intermediate mechanisms such as the search for endophenotypes and the biological bases of neuropsychology.

The relevance of the studies carried out lies partly in the group’s ability to conduct longitudinal studies of uncommon patient samples, such as early-onset first psychotic episodes or children and adolescents at risk of developing severe psychiatric illness. The research conducted is characterised by its multidisciplinary and translational nature and by being oriented towards addressing findings related to the clinical activity of these conditions.
