Translational Oncology

Coordinador:

Dr. Francisco Ayala and Dr. Ramón García

The general objective of research in the Oncology Area is to generate reliable and scientifically relevant information on the individualized treatment of cancer through translational research, which may enable the selection of the antitumour treatment that provides each patient with the greatest chances of cure and the fewest sequelae. The selection of therapy will be based essentially on the genetic/molecular profile of the patient and the tumour. The appropriate selection of cancer patients who are candidates for sophisticated antitumour therapies (targeted medical treatments, high-definition radiotherapy, cell therapy, haematopoietic progenitor transplantation) available at our centre will enable the most suitable choice for each patient.

In addition, the Area will study hereditary-familial cancer syndromes and other situations involving a high risk of cancer developing, in which various interventions may be highly effective in reducing the likelihood of the disease appearing.
