Pathology of Major Organ Systems and Organ Transplantation

The Large Systems Pathology area brings together a broad spectrum of predominantly clinically based research groups. The area’s most productive lines of research range from chronic kidney disease and acute kidney failure to the biology of ageing, including the pathophysiology of liver and digestive diseases and abdominal organ transplantation.
Moreover, some of the groups in the area participate in cooperative research structures funded by the ISCIII (CIBEREHD), have made significant contributions to the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines, or participate in and lead international educational cooperation projects, particularly in South America. Likewise, some groups in the area support European technology-based projects aimed at bringing diagnostic and treatment tools for elderly patients into the home.
